If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to drive to Oriental, this is it.
I’ll be signing copies of I Was Just So Lonely this Saturday, May 16, at A Story Runs Through It, hosted by the Pamlico Arts Council – and I’m doing something a little extra there. I’ll be talking about the local places that inspired or appeared in the book. If you’ve ever wondered which spots made it onto the page, this is your chance to find out.

Oriental is one of those small towns that feels like it was invented for exactly this kind of afternoon. You show up, you browse, you talk to a stranger, and somehow you leave feeling a little less like yourself in a good way. Which, honestly, is not so different from what happens inside the book.

About the Book
I Was Just So Lonely is now available in paperback – a real look at the myth of finding new friends in your 30’s.
Lea is a woman who decides to stop waiting for friendship to find her. It’s warm, it’s wry, and it’s the kind of story that makes you want to text someone you’ve been meaning to text.
Also Coming Up: New Bern on May 30
Can’t make it Saturday? I’ll also be signing at Next Chapter Books and Art in New Bern on May 30, 11AM–1PM. That one has a special twist: Next Chapter is actually mentioned in the book, so walking in to sign copies there is going to be a full-circle moment I’ve been looking forward to. They’ll also have copies available in store if you can’t make the signing.
I hope to see familiar faces and make some new ones. These events are exactly what the book is about, after all.
See you Saturday.
– Ashley
